After seeing a baby cut across the highway during rush hour traffic, Bailey Vardanega, of Windermere Central Oregon Real Estate, pulled her car over and ran across the highway to chase after the baby. In what seems like a scene straight out of a movie, Vardanega ran toward the end of the freeway and jumped into the canal after seeing the baby had fallen into the water. She got the baby and swam them both back toward land. Reflecting on the aftermath of the situation, Vardanega commented “I just jumped in feet first and swam,” she said. “And that is just what you have to do. I would hope anyone would do that for a child.”

Police on scene credit Vardengea with saving the baby’s life. Vardangea, who has two children herself, knows how quickly kids can get away. Yet, in that moment, she came to rescue.
