The Centers for Disease Control ban on residential eviction for nonpayment of rent slated to end June 30, 2021, has been extended for one month to July 31, 2021.

What this means for Oregonians

Under the recently passed Oregon SB 278, beginning July 1 Oregon landlords will already be prohibited from terminating a tenancy for nonpayment of current rent, utilities, fees or other charges for 60 days if they receive notification from their tenant that the tenant has applied for emergency rental assistance. And under SB 282 (Grace Period Extension), landlords are prohibited from terminating a tenancy based on nonpayment balances that accrued between April 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021 until March 1, 2022.

Now, with the extension of the federal ban, at least for the month of July, landlords will also be prevented from evicting a tenant for nonpayment of rent if the tenant provides the landlord with a signed declaration, under the penalty of perjury, that states that the tenant qualifies for the federal protection. The declaration need not be on the CDC form, but it must contain all of the same information and must be signed by the tenant under penalty of perjury.
